Ingredients

Scale

For the cake:

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 1 cup orange soda
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 tsp orange zest

For the orange gelatin layer:

  • 1 box (3 oz) orange gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup cold water

For the frosting:

  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, orange soda, vegetable oil, egg whites, and orange zest. Beat until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes.
  5. While the cake is still warm, poke holes all over the top using a skewer or the handle of a wooden spoon.
  6. In a bowl, dissolve the orange gelatin in boiling water, then stir in the cold water.
  7. Slowly pour the gelatin mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
  8. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to set.
  9. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix, milk, and vanilla extract until thickened.
  10. Fold in the whipped topping until smooth.
  11. Spread the frosting over the chilled cake and refrigerate until ready to serve.
